प्यारे दोस्तों,

अपने आप को प्रेरित कर, जीवन कि हर एक समस्याें काे सरलता पूर्वक पार करें।

अपने आप पर पूर्ण विश्वास करें।

सर्व-प्रथम स्वयं पर विश्वास करना सीखें, जिस इंसान काे स्वयं(अपने आप) पर विश्वास नहीं हाेता, अगर पुरी दुनिया के लाेग भी मिलकर उसकी मदद(Help) करें, ताे भी वह जीवन में कभी सफल नहीं, हाे सकता। यह दुनिया आदि(Start) से लेकर अब तक विश्वास पर ही चल रहीं हैं। जब आपकाे अपने आप पर पूर्ण विश्वास हाेगा, ताे आपके प्रत्येक सोच-विचार, वाणी और कार्य में सकारात्मकता आ जायेगी। जिससे आप जीवन में सफलताआें काे सरलता पूर्वक प्राप्त कर सकते हैं।

खाली मन शैतान का घर।

“खाली मन शैतान का घर” हाेता हैं, यह कहावत बिल्कुल सही हैं। जब मन खाली(Free) हाेता है, तभी मन में शैतानी विचार आते हैं। अपने मन काे व्यस्त रखना सीखें।

“जब मन हाे व्यस्त सकारात्मक सोच में, हरदम सफलता हाे आपकी जेब में।”

मन काे हमेशा व्यस्त रखना चाहिये अच्छें सोच में। क्योंकि सकारात्मक सोच ही निर्णय मे कनवर्ट हाेकर शरीर की कर्मइंद्रियाें काे निर्देश देता हैं और कर्मइंद्रिया इन्ही निर्देशाे के अनुसार कर्म करती हैं। यही कर्म “अकर्म, सुकर्म और विकर्म,” के रूप में आंतरिक आत्मा में  Store हाेता हैं, जाे “संस्कार” कहलाता हैं।

अपने असली(Real) स्वरूप काे जाने।

सबसे बड़ा प्रश्न, “मैं कौन हूँ?”(Who am i?)। केवल इसी एक ही सवाल का सही जवाब(उत्तर) जानकर, काेई भी इंसान शांतिमय जीवन जिये। यह ताे हम-सब जानते है कि हमारे शरीर काे एक शक्ति चला रही है, जिसे हम सब आत्मा(Soul) कहते हैं। लेकिन कितनी देर तक हमे यह याद रहता है कि हम एक आत्मा हैं। जब देखाें तब यहि कहते फिरते है मैं फलाने पोस्ट पर हूँ, मुझे नही जानते मैं किसका लडका या लडकी हूँ, मैं काैन हूँ तुम नही जानते आदि-आदि।

हम अपने असली स्वरूप काे भुल गये है, जिस कारण हमे अपने निजी गुण और संस्कार भी याद नही हैं। यह भुल ही सभी दुःखाे का कारण हैं।आत्मा की तीन मुख्य शक्तिया हाेती हैं।

“प्रथम-मन, द्वितीय-बुद्धि और तृतीय-संस्कार।”

आत्मा के सात माैलिक गुण हाेते हैं।

1. शांति (Shanti),

2. सुख (Sukh),

3. प्रेम (Prem),

4. शक्ति (Power),

5. ज्ञान (Gyan),

6. पवित्रता (शुद्धि-Purity),

7. आनंद (आत्मिक खुशी-Anand),

मन कि शक्ति काे सही समय पर उपयोग करें।

मन में वह असिमित शक्ति भरी हैं, जिसका सही उपयोग कर, हर असंभव कार्य काे सरलता पूर्वक संभव में बदला जा सकता हैं। मन कि शक्तियाे काे सही समय पर और सही दिशा में उपयोग करना सीखें।

“जहा १० शब्दाें से काेई बात बन जाये, वहा पर १०० शब्द बाेलकर।
अपनी आंतरिक मानसिक और वाणी की ऊर्जा काे यू ही नष्ट ना करें॥”

जहा सहना हाे वहा सहे, जहा सामना करना हाे वहा सामना करें, जीवन के कर्मक्षेत्र पर। यह सृष्टि एक रंगमंच हैं, हम सभी इंसान पार्टधारी है, हम सभी अपना-अपना पार्ट बजा रहे हैं। एक का भी पार्ट ना मिले दुसरे से।

मन कि शक्तियाे काे संचित करना सीखें, और संचित मन कि शक्तियाे काे सकारात्मक तरीके से जीवन में उपयोग करें।

We become a little irritated when we are stuck in a traffic jam and we getting late to reach somewhere on time, or we are not going to complete a particular task, as per our expectations or if someone whom we very well know decides to ignore us today, for some reason or the other. If this seed of irritation is watered, or in other words it is given the concentrated energy of our attention i.e. we continue with the irritation for some time, it slowly grows or evolves into frustration. Unless we take some constructive inner action to stop the growth of the frustration and we keep energizing it, it will grow or evolve into anger. And if this happens regularly and we are not careful, it will become a habit, a part of our personality, which we will finally come to believe is a natural part of your nature. We will even think we were born with it. That it is ‘in our genes’. Every time we become angry we cause the production of certain chemicals in our body and we also become addicted to those chemicals – then we look for people and situations which will give us an excuse to get angry so that we can have our daily dose of chemicals. We not only become attached to material objects, people, ways of thinking, beliefs etc. – we also become attached to our emotions like the emotion of anger. The regular secretion of these chemicals will finally kill our body. We don’t need to kill our body. We need to accept that anger is never ever productive, know that it is just not necessary to be angry with anyone or about anything, know that it is entirely our own creation and know that we can choose a different response. If we know and accept that, we will experience freedom from it.

To be constantly enthusiastic is to experience freedom.

Projection: When everything is going on well I find myself enthusiastic and have the interest to move forward. But when even a little thing goes wrong, I lose all enthusiasm to do anything else. This creates a bondage for me and I find it difficult to move forward.

Solution: I need to remind myself that to be enthusiastic in all situations is to be like a free bird reaching great heights. To lose enthusiasm according to difficult situations is to be like a caged bird.

How Often And Why Do I Need To Meditate (Part 1)?

As with anything else, the more we practice meditation, the more we feel the benefit of what we are doing. We do need to practice meditation regularly because the habits of:

i. identifying with our physical form,

ii. succumbing to mental and emotional negativity (in the form of waste and negative thoughts) along with negativity in words and actions,

iii. becoming attached to the physical as well as the non-physical, and

iv. being dependent upon the experience of physical stimulation of any sort (from e.g. food, movies, people, sports etc.) for happiness are extremely deep.

These habits have deepened over a period of many many births, because of repeating them regularly, due to a lack of spiritual awareness. As a result, in the present moment also we regularly and quite easily slip into these four habits.

Message

Truth is effective when it is combined with tact.

Projection: I usually react when something goes wrong. In the heat of the moment I give corrections and others don’t seem to understand. Then I tend to become confused, as it is difficult to make a choice whether to leave the situation as it is or to prove my point to the others.

Solution: Unless truth is combined with tact I cannot make people realise their mistakes. When I find something going wrong, I need to wait for the right time for saying what I have to. I also need to tell it in a way that the other person can understand. Only then will my words have their impact on others.

 

How Often And Why Do I Need To Meditate (Part 2)?

As explained yesterday, we regularly and quite easily slip into four main negative habits. So meditation is not only sitting in a quiet corner, and connecting with the self and the Supreme, at a couple of fixed times during the day, but it is also the way to gently remember and remind ourselves, many times in a day, that we as well as others, are souls or spiritual beings not physical beings, by detaching ourselves from actions and also while being involved in actions. These reminders given to the self over a period of time become natural and prevent us from succumbing to these four habits. Given below is a basic meditation, which you could use to remind yourself regularly during the day:

I have a body but this body is not me…
I have thoughts but these thoughts are not me …
I have feelings but these feelings are not me …
I have attitudes but these attitudes are not me …
I have emotions but these emotions are not me …
I have beliefs but these beliefs are not me …
I perform many actions through my sense organs, but these sense organs are not me…
I play many roles but I am not my roles…
I experience joy or sorrow through my sense organs, but these experiences are not me …
I am a soul – a being of energy, which is neither created nor can be destroyed, and my original and true nature is one of peace, love, joy and power…

Message

True service is to serve equally through thoughts, words and actions.

Projection: Whenever I think of serving others, I think of only serving through actions or maybe even through words. I never think of serving through my thoughts too. So sometimes I do find that my service is not complete and doesn’t have a true impact.

Solution: Before I can think of helping someone through words or through actions, I need to make sure I have good wishes for them. Only when my feelings for them are full of positive and powerful wishes can my service create its impact on others.

Practical Exercise On Intellect Reawakening And Empowerment

It has been estimated that for around 80% of our daily routine we are ruled by habits. This means that most of the time we go straight from thought (created by the mind) to action, without checking the quality of our thoughts. In this way, we bypass the intellect, and do not use our capacity to judge right from wrong and to make conscious decisions. What we need to do now is reawaken, use and empower the intellect, which is true spiritual empowerment.

Practical Exercise
Withdraw your attention from everything around you. Create a simple thought in your mind. Concentrate on the thought. Then use your intellect to judge to what extent the thought is right or wrong and what the quality of that thought is (is it a negative thought, a waste or unnecessary thought, a necessary thought, a positive one etc.?). If you decide it is not a good thought, leave it and create a better thought. In this way, you consciously exercise control of your mind and intellect thereby strengthening your mental and intellectual capacities. This will also help you regain your feelings of rule over the self.

If thoughts or images come from your memories or from sources outside your own mind while you are busy in this inner exercise, don’t give them any mental energy. Let them go and bring your attention back to your own ‘conscious’ creation (mentioned above).

Once, you have mastered this in this exercise; try the same process while you busy in your daily routine.

Message

The one with contentment is neither upset nor upsets others.

Projection: Many times I find that my words, actions or behaviour tends to upset others inspite of my not wanting to hurt them. I seem to be very happy with the situation, but others don’t seem to be. At that time I am not really able to understand the reason for this and I consider the others to be unreasonable.

Solution: I need to check myself when others are getting upset with me. I need to make effort to check and change myself constantly so that I am able to move along with the demands of time. This is what will bring about true contentment – such contentment that neither will I be upset nor will I upset others.

Controlling Your Emotions –

There are five essential steps to emotional control and mastery. Although the complete process will finally happen in a few seconds in real life, it is essential for our learning to break it down and see what is required at every step. 

Step One Awareness 
This simply means being aware of the emergence of the subtlest (finest) of emotions, which, if left unchecked, will grow into important disturbances. For example irritation leads to frustration leads to anger leads to rage.

Step TwoAcknowledge 
Which means taking responsibility for the emotion by understanding and acknowledging that I am the creator of the emotion, not someone or something else.

Step threeAcceptance 
Fully accept the presence of the emotion without resisting (opposing) it in any way. If it is resisted it simply becomes stronger, or is suppressed for another day.

Step FourAscend 
This is the moment of full detachment from both the emotion and the inner source of emotion. In the process of detached observation the emotion is losing its power. And it is only through detached observation that the emotion will begin to dissolve.

Step FiveAttune 
This means returning our attention to the very centre of ourselves where our inner peace and power are to be found. This is the purpose of meditation.

Message 

To be in the awareness of my own speciality is to be free from negativity. 

Projection: When I percieve negativity in others, I find myself very easily influenced by it. I then react negatively to them and am not able to maintain my own positivity. All my specialities remain hidden in such a negative atmosphere and I continue to be negative too.

Solution: Like a rose I need to maintain my originality and uniqueness while being amongst the thorns. Instead of blaming others and their negativity for my own negativity, I need to practice being positive and working with my original qualities. Then I will never complain but will always use my own specialities.

At the heart of our consciousness, we have a conscience.Our conscience is essentially our basic awareness of truth. From a spiritual point of view, the truth of who we are as spiritual beings is core and eternal truth. If we consider ourselves to be anything other than soul or spirit then we will be thinking and acting against our conscience, against our truth, which is like going against the essence of spirit. We will feel something is not quite right. If one of the pistons in our car engine is out of sync with the others, the engine will sound slightly different from normal. We immediately have it fixed, because we know that if it continues it may destroy the engine. If we do something that is out of sync with the truth, the voice of our conscience speaks to us. But we tend to ignore or suppress it, especially if we are having a seemingly pleasurable experience – we then create the sanskars or habit of ignoring our own conscience. As a result we keep repeating the negative karma and the sanskars of the negative karma are deepened, further ignoring the voice of our conscience. It is a vicious cycle, to come out of which is extremely difficult.

Message

The one who is free from desire is the one who is able to maintain positivity. 

Projection: When I put forth my ideas to others I expect them to listen to me. My idea changes to desire and when it is not accepted I then tend to become irritated. And along with it also comes jealousy or dislike for the others and I find myself caught up in negativity.

Solution: I need to make sure that I share my ideas with others but at the same time I need to keep myself free from any selfish motive. When I put forth my idea in a detached way, I too will be open to learning and I will be able to accept any criticism or rejectance that comes my way. Thus I will be free from negativity.

Am I Creating Negative Karma – Guilt As An Indicator – Part 2

An angerholic (one who gets angry repeatedly) hears the internal voice telling him to stop creating mental unrest, harming his body, hurting others and being addicted to the habit and the hormones that get created inside the body due to the habit, but then ignores the voice or drowns it out. This only adds to the inner disharmony (peacelessness) already present and both self-respect and self-esteem are slowly reduced. Any action we do which springs from forgetfulness (body-consciousness) will trigger this inner, spiritual discomfort. Following the action, we might feel guilty for doing something we internally knew was wrong. Any form of guiltexcept the one that is caused by another person i.e. except the case when guilt is caused inside you because another person is emotionally blackmailing you, is the voice of our conscience calling to say that we are acting against the essence, something is out of sync. Our level of guilt acts like a thermometer (an indicator). It shows us when and to what extent we are not aligned to truth. If we learn to pay attention, listen closely to this inner discomfort and the message it conveys, we will also hear why and how to make corrections, so that we no longer create negative karma. 

Message

The one who fulfills promises with determination is the one who overcome all problems. 

Projection: When I see some weakness working within me I usually make a promise to myself with a lot of enthusiasm. But if I face even a little opposition or difficulty in fulfilling this promise, I tend to lose hope and usually give up trying altogether.

Solution: In order to bring about a change in me and fulfill my promise, I need to use the virtue of determination. Every time I find myself becoming careless in it, I need to remind myself strongly of the importance of the promise that I had made. Then I will be able to win over all the obstacles that come my way in bringing my thoughts and words to actions.

Motivation for Change

An important factor to start positive change in our lives is for there to be a passion, a powerful force that leads us, a final goal that keeps us motivated. It is important to set yourself goals, to be convinced and to have the confidence and faith that one can reach them, since in this way we will make a daily effort to achieve those goals. There needs to be a clearly defined sense of purpose to your existence, clarifying the values that must guide your life in order to achieve these goals and establish the steps you must take for inculcating these values. If, at a subconscious level, you allow a mistaken purpose to be created, or there is a lack of true purpose in your life, then you will not be motivated to know and change yourself. Many people think that the purpose of their life is to survive and they use the language of survival in this way: “Life is hard out there. You must get whatever you can”. They are not aware that they have chosen this purpose, but subconsciously it is what they believe they are here for, and this makes them think that they must accumulate, take, create barriers to protect themselves and compete with others.

 

 

Practical Ways of Changing Old Habits or Beliefs – Part 2 

Positive Affirmations 

Affirmations are promises that we make to ourselves. They are helpful for breaking negative habits or weak thoughts that have been created as a result of mistaken attitudes. Affirmations help to strengthen the mind, although to be effective there must be acceptance and understanding behind them. It is interesting to begin experimenting with them and, later on, we can begin to create variations of new affirmations, according to our individual needs.

Here are some examples: 

* Today I will experience peace through positivity. I will see what is good in others and will not think about what is negative or harmful. I will see others in the way I would like them to see me.

* From now on I will not judge others.

* Today I will speak peacefully and share peace with everyone around me. I must speak as softly as I can. 

* Today I will make the past the past and look towards the future with a new vision. 

* Today I will not react angrily. I will stay calm and in peace and will not sacrifice this for anyone or any situation. I must not allow anything or anyone rob me of my peace.

For the affirmation to be effective, we must repeat it to ourselves often, so that it becomes recorded in our subconscious. It is also important to proclaim the affirmations with feeling, believing in them and not in a monotonous and impersonal voice. As a minimum, you should repeat each affirmation at least five times a day. If we listen to something repeatedly, we begin to believe in it. In reality, this is the origin of the majority of our beliefs, when as children we heard our parents tell us things over and over again. Advertising uses this technique constantly. They create a phrase, a slogan, and repeat it over and over again in the media until, finally, people believe it. To be able to control your life, first you must know and dominate your beliefs. One way of doing this is through affirmations.

Conscious Disassociation 

A useful method for transforming habits is that of conscious disassociation. This involves avoiding the situations that give rise to the habit occurring automatically. Instead of your habitual coffee, you can create a new pattern and have a cup of herbal tea and sit down to think or read, instead of smoking.

The basic principle of using images in our mind is to act as if the desire we have in our mind has already been achieved. If we place images of success, health, wellbeing or inner peace in our mind, these will materialize in positive situations and experience, and this image of success will become real in our lives.

Exercises of Silence 

Exercises of silence help you concentrate your mind and intellect, and go within yourself to recover the positive and eternal energies. With the appropriate concentration of the mind and intellect towards your constructive inner forces of peace, love and happiness, you can strengthen yourself. Being strong means staying positive when faced with negative situations, peaceful when everything around you is chaotic: in other words, not being influenced negatively but influencing the situation with your positivity. When you stay calm in your inner power of peace, you can transmit this to others and help them to calm themselves. When you begin exercises of silence, concentrate primarily on peace. This is the basis of the practice, as when there is inner balance and harmony it is easier to build over these the other values love, happiness, truth and sincerity. The experience of deep peace calms you, clarifies you and fills you with energy to think and act positively and achieve your purpose that you have set for yourself.

Spiritual education leads us back to the understanding and the experience of our holistic existence as human beings, to the knowledge that we are spiritual, as well as physical, mental and emotional beings.

A true spiritual education could be described as:
• learning from others
• growing through others
• integrating with others
• contributing to others

When we are genuinely learning, only then can we experience spiritual growth. When we grow, we integrate with others and it is in that integration that there is a natural and mutual contribution to nature and other souls. These four processes of education are constantly at work, but only happen in a way that is enjoyable and meaningful when the spiritual resources of the self like peace, joy and love are activated and creatively used.

These resources, along with the mind and intellect, enrich the way we see the world, the way we interact with it and the way we individually create our place in it. These resources are the original qualities of the self, which we have not properly used for a long time. By become spiritually aware, we start to harness and use these positive energies.

A deep understanding and an attitude of pure feelings results in positive thinking.

Projection: When we talk about positive thinking, it is usually just ‘think positive’ and ‘be positive’. But just saying this, either to others or to myself, doesn’t help to change my thoughts permanently, in fact usually, not even temporarily.

Solution: Real positive thinking is much deeper than just to think positive. For this I need to understand and see things as they are, without colouring them with my own attitudes. Then I can deal with things in the most appropriate way, having understood everything accurately.

The state of the body is a result of the state of the soul not only because of past karmas (actions performed in this and previous births) but because of its present state also.

For example, when the emotion of fear passes through the mind, the endocrine system starts pumping adrenalin through the body to prepare it for a surge of energy. It is easy to note the cause-effect relationship between fear (cause) and adrenalin (effect). In the same way all of the mental ups and downs cause resulting secretions throughout the body. Internal rage is accompanied by heavy breathing, fast heart-beats, red face and so on. This relationship between body and soul is the reason most physical diseases arise from a psychological or mental origin. There is no doubt that any lessening of harmful secretions by reducing the emotional causes will bring about sound and lasting health. Health and order in the soul (mind) bring health and order in the body.

Of course there are other factors which give rise to health problems – pollution, unhealthy life-style, lack of exercise, wrong diet etc. Through Raja Yoga meditation (taught by the Brahma Kumaris) and its connected positive lifestyle and through a pure vegetarian diet, ill-health can be minimized. The removal of stress and tension has to be one of the most important advantages for a person who practices Rajyoga meditation.

विल्मा का जन्म 1939 में अमेरिका के टेनेसी राज्य के एक कस्बे में हुआ। विल्मा के पिता रुडोल्फ कुली व माँ सर्वेंट का काम करती थी। विल्मा 22 भाई – बहनों में 19 वे नंबर की थी।
विल्मा बचपन से ही बेहद बीमार रहती थी, ढाई साल की उम्र में उसे पोलियो हो गया।  उसे अपने पेरों को हिलाने में भी बहुत दर्द होने लगा। बेटी की ऐसी हालत देख कर, माँ ने बेटी को सँभालने के लिए अपना काम छोड़ दिया और उसका इलाज़ शुरू कराया।  माँ सप्ताह में दो बार उसे, अपने कस्बे से 50 मील दूर स्तिथ हॉस्पिटल में इलाज के लिए लेकर जाती, क्योकि वो ही सबसे नजदीकी हॉस्पिटल था जहा अश्वेतों के इलाज की सुविधा थी। बाकी के पांच दिन घर में उसका इलाज़ किया जाता। विल्मा का मनोबल बना रहे इसलिए माँ ने उसका प्रवेश एक विधालय में करा दिया।  माँ उसे हमेशा अपने आपको बेहतर समझने के लिए प्रेरित करती।

पांच साल तक इलाज़ चलने के बाद विल्मा की हालत में थोडा सुधर हुआ।  अब वो एक पाँव में ऊँचे ऐड़ी के जूते पहन कर खेलने लगी। डॉक्टर ने उसे बास्केट्बाल खेलने की सलाह दी। विल्मा का इलाज कर रहे डॉक्टर के. एमवे. ने कहा था की विल्मा कभी भी बिना ब्रेस के नहीं चल पाएगी।  पर माँ के समर्पण और विल्मा की लगन के कारण, विल्मा ने 11 साल की उम्र में अपने ब्रेस उतारकर पहली बार बास्केट्बाल खेली।

यह उनका इलाज कर रहे डॉक्टर के लिए किसी चमत्कार से कम नहीं था। जब यह बात डॉक्टर के. एम्वे. को पता चली तो वो उससे मिलने आये। उन्होंने उससे ब्रेस उतारकर दौड़ने को कहा।  विल्मा ने फटाफट ब्रेस उतारा और चलने लगी।  कुछ फीट चलने के बाद वो दौड़ी और गिर पड़ी।  डॉक्टर एम्वे. उठे और किलकारी मारते हुए विल्मा के पास पहुचे।  उन्होंने विल्मा को उठाकर सीने से लगाया और कहा शाबाश बेटी। मेरा कहा गलत हुआ, पर मेरी साध पूरी हुई। तुम दौडोगी, खूब दौडोगी और सबको पीछे छोड़ दौगी। विल्मा ने आगे चलकर एक इंटरव्यू में कहा था की डॉक्टर एम्वे. की उस शाबाशी ने जैसे एक चट्टान तोड़ दी और वहां  से एक उर्जा की धारा बह उठी। मेनें सोच लिया की मुझे संसार की सबसे तेज धावक बनना है।

इसके बाद विल्मा की माँ ने उसके लिए एक कोच का इंतजाम किया। विल्मा की लगन और संकल्प को देखकर स्कुल ने भी उसका पूरा सहयोग किया।  विल्मा पुरे जोश और लग्न के साथ अभ्यास करने  लगी।  विल्मा ने 1953 में पहली बार अंतर्विधालीय दौड़ प्रतियोगिता में हिस्सा लिया।  इस प्रतियोगिता में वो आखरी स्थान पर रही।  विल्मा ने अपना आत्मविश्वास कम नहीं होने दिया उसने पुरे जोर – शोर से अपना अभ्यास जारी रखा।  आखिरकार आठ असफलताओं के बाद नौवी प्रतियोगिता में उसे  जीत  नसीब हुई। इसके बाद विल्मा ने पीछे मुड कर नहीं देखा वो लगातार बेहतरीन  प्रदर्शन करती रही जिसके फलस्वरूप उसे 1960 के रोम ओलम्पिक मे देश का प्रतिनिधित्व करने का मौका मिला ।

ओलम्पिक मे विल्मा ने 100 मिटर दौड, 200 मिटर दौड और 400 मिटर रिले दौड मे गोल्ड मेडल जीते । इस तरह विल्मा, अमेरिका की प्रथम अश्वेत महिला खिलाडी बनी जिसने दौड की तीन प्रतियोगिताओ मे गोल्ड मेडल जीते। अखबारो ने उसे ब्लैक गेजल की उपाधी से नवाजा जो बाद मे धुरंधर अश्वेत खिलाडीयो  का पर्याय बन गई।

Wilma Rudolph became the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field during a single Olympic Games, despite running on a sprained ankle.

Born Wilma Glodean Rudolph on June 23, 1940 in St. Bethlehem Tennessee, she was the twentieth of twenty-two children. When Wilma was four years old, her parents Ed and Blanche Rudolph were informed that their daughter had polio. By 1947 Blanche was making the 50 mile journey to Nashville twice a week for medical treatments for Wilma. Mrs. Rudolph would often treat Wilma herself with homemade remedies and nightly massages on her legs, promising she would one day walk without braces.

In 1952, when Wilma turned 12, her dream was realized and she no longer needed the braces that made her “different” from the other kids. While In high school, Wilma followed her older sisters and participated in basketball, eventually setting state records and leading her team to a state championship. However, a Tennessee state track and field coach, Edward Temple, spotted her and foresaw her amazing potential. He knew he had found a natural athlete. Wilma had already gained some track experience on Burt High School’s track team two years before, mostly as a way to keep busy between basketball seasons. By the age of 16, she had secured her place on the U.S. Olympic track and field team and returned from the 1956 Melbourne Games with a bronze medal in the 4 X 100 relay.

She returned to the 1960 Rome Olympic games to compete and won gold in three events, the 100m, 200m, and the 4 x 100 relay. She achieved Olympic records in all of her Rome competitions. She wanted her victories to pay tribute to Jesse Owens, who had been her inspiration.

Wilma Rudolph next won two races at a U.S. – Soviet meet and then announced her retirement from track competition in 1962.

1963 proved to be a busy year. She married her high school sweetheart with whom she had four children. After retiring from amateur sports, Wilma was granted a full scholarship to Tennessee State University and thus began her studies in 1963. She completed her studies and earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She later coached at Burt High School and then moved on to serve as a sports commentator.

Wilma Rudolph was decorated with multiple awards and honors. She was named United Press Athlete of the Year in 1960 and Associated Press Woman Athlete of the Year in 1960. In 1961 she won the James E. Sullivan Award as the top amateur athlete in the United States. Her father died in that same year. She was voted in and inducted into four different Halls of Fame: National Black Sports and Entertainment hall of Fame in 1973 and the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1974, U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in1983, and National Women’s Hall of Fame in 1994.

Wilma published her autobiography Wilma, “The Story of Wilma Rudolph,” in 1977, which NBC made into a movie that same year.

Wilma Rudolph was diagnosed with brain and throat cancer in July of 1994. She died four months later at age 54, on November 12, 1994. She was survived by four children, eight grandchildren, and over 100 nieces and nephews.

Meditation – Experiencing My Original Home (Part 1)

In meditation, I focus my mind and intellect on that region which is called by names like soul world, paramdham, nirvandham, shantidham and so on. In fact, this is the region where the soul stays, when it has no body. Here the soul stays in the form of a star-like point of light, untouched by matter (five elements including the body). In this world, there exists neither thought, word nor action; just complete stillness, sweet silence and peace. When I first take a physical body, it is from here that I the soul come down into the material world i.e. the earth, which is the field of action.

With the practice of meditation, my third eye (eye of the mind) opens; and I see and experience my original home as an infinite (very large, unmeasurable) world of very subtle (light) golden-red light, situated beyond the physical world of five elements, beyond the sun, moon and stars.


 

Meditation – Experiencing My Original Home (Part 2)

Along with reading over the following words slowly and silently, make a sincere effort to create images of them in the eye of your mind:

I focus myself on the self, the soul, a golden point of light……..
I stay between the eyebrows in the middle of the forehead……..
I radiate golden rays of peace, purity and love in all directions……..
In this awareness of I the soul, with the power of my mind I can travel beyond the limits of my physical organs……..
I visualize myself gradually going out from this physical body……..
I, the sparkling star like energy, fly into the night sky……..
I see myself floating above thousands of buildings and lights……..
Slowly I rise higher and higher to enter space……..
I am surrounded by millions of stars and planets……..
Slowly I see myself flying beyond the world of five elements……..
I, the golden star, enter another world, a soft golden-red light world……..
A world of sweet silence and peace……..
full of peaceful light stretching very very far away……..
I feel pure warmth here, surrounded by light……..
I the point of light shine in this sixth element……..
I am free of all tensions, extremely light………
This is where I belong,
This is my home……..
I recognize this place……..
I had forgotten it, but now I have rediscovered it……..
Spend a few minutes in this positive experience and then gradually come downwards to take your seat back in the physical body.

Letting Go Of The Branches Of The Life Tree

A very common habit that has become deeply embedded inside us is the habit of possessing, to which we succumb repeatedly. We come in contact with different people, material comforts, roles, positions, experiences, achievements and of course our own physical body etc. on an external level and our own thoughts, viewpoints, beliefs, memories, etc. on an internal level etc. throughout our life. All of these are like branches that make up our life tree. Possession is like clinging on to one or the other of these different branches from time to time, as we fly from one branch to another, while covering our life journey. The spiritual point of view on this habit is clear and very straight forward. It is not possible to possess anything. If we do try to do so, we lose our freedom. To experience the freedom, we need to dare to let go of the branches, which does not mean to lose or leave them because the branches are always going to be there. We can return to any of them to rest or pause whenever we want. But, it is about being aware and alert, because the moment a pause on a branch turns into a stop, the stop turns into a brake and, after that, the brake turns into a blockage. As a result, like the bird whose flying agility degrades on a physical level if it does the same; our intellectual and emotional agility starts to degrade.

When we learn to let go of one branch at a time, we are always welcoming new positive and empowering experiences in our life, one at a time. Like the birds, by letting go of one branch, we are then able to spend the rest of your lives trying and discovering many other branches, one branch at a time, and so we can enjoy the view from each new vantage point.We can choose between a life of flying and soaring or be stuck on one or the other branch, seeing others as they fly past and enjoy a life of freedom where they do visit their life tree from time to time and their life does revolve around the tree but they don’t try and possess it or any of its branches.

To recognize the uniqueness of one’s own role is to be free from negativity. Expression: When we find things going wrong with us, we sometimes wish for a change in our role. We begin to compare ourselves with others or wish for something better in our life, which makes us lose all our enthusiasm. We, then, make no effort to better our role.

Experience: We need to recognize the importance of our own role. Like an actor who doesn’t make effort to change his role but brings perfection to his own role, we, too, need to concentrate on our own role. The recognition of the importance of our own role and the desire to bring excellence to it makes us free from negativity.

Transforming The Other’s Anger 

In meditation, when I connect with God, I absorb His spiritual love and peace, which causes my own original qualities, which are present in me, the soul, in my pure state when I begin the playing of roles through physical bodies on the world stage, to come to the forefront or to the surface, to emerge in the conscious from the sub-conscious. As a result, now, where previously there would have been conflict, I have a greater capacity to remain peaceful when another person behaves in an unpleasant way with me. I have the power to stay mentally and emotionally stable when someone provokes or insults me. This power is enormously valuable in life, enabling me to cool heated situations, and even remove another person’s anger altogether. 

Instead of focusing on the anger on a person’s face, I focus my attention to the non-physical, star-like being or soul within the person, which was peaceful and loveful in its original, pure state. This increases my tolerance and acceptance power. Also, through my meditation, I am actively aware of the spiritual bond all human beings share, as souls who have a common home of peace, the incorporeal (non-physical) home, from where all of souls come and a common connection with the One Supreme Father, the Supreme Soul. Through this knowledge, I connect with the goodness in the other soul and my love for the soul is maintained. I realize that this goodness is a deeper reality than the anger. The truth is that if I can hold this soul-conscious vision steady for long enough, I radiate positive energy to the other soul, which works like magic and awakens the goodness within the other person. Then, my tolerance bears fruit and peace really does prevail between the two of us.

To bring in light is to finish darkness. 

Expression: Usually when there is any negativity seen, there is a lot of attention paid to it. All the positivity remains hidden and only the negativity is highlighted. So the one who is caught up with a negative attitude colours all his words and actions too with this negativity and will naturally create a world of negativity for himself. 

Experience: When I am able to see the positivity even in both positive situations and negative situations, I am able to influence others with my positivity. Others’ negativity will not influence me in a negative way, but I will be able to remain powerful in all situations. I will experience inner growth constantly.

Bringing The Consciousness Back In Shape 

If we try and find the root causes of all forms of stress, we would find that both lazy and wrong thinking lie behind various stressful emotions. No one right from our childhood to when we are grown-ups puts this into our heads that we are each responsible for our own thoughts and feelings. Instead we are taught that others are responsible for what we think and feel. No one teaches us how to think. We are taught what to think in terms of knowledge of the world, but not how to shape our own thoughts and feelings. 

In spirituality the self gets the required training to create positive and powerful thoughts, thoughts: 

1. which are connected to true spiritual knowledge of the self, 
2. which are beneficial to your own spiritual well-being, 
3. that inject positive energy in the form of happiness, love and enthusiasm to those around you, 
4. which are absolutely necessary in the context in which you find yourself, 
5. which use all your subtle energies in an economical way, 
6. which ensure that the result of any response you may create does not result in stress. 

When no one teaches us that any mental or emotional discomfort comes from within our own consciousness, we also do not ever realize that any negative state of being is unnatural and a sign that our consciousness is out of shape. The above thought training helps us to return our consciousness to its true, natural and original shape.
