ϒ Yoga – A Lifestyle – Part 1 ϒ

All of us are constantly living a life of yoga, which in spiritual terms is called a link or connection between two entities i.e. the one which remembers and the other one which is remembered. Examples of what we have yoga with could be a person or God (called rajyoga) or your actions (called karma yoga) or spiritual knowledge (called gyan yoga) or bhakti (called bhakti yoga). Other examples of yoga are with your breath (called pranayama) or your physical body (called hath yoga) or even a physical object like a candle flame. So, yoga is life and should not be limited to sitting in a particular posture for a few minutes at a particular time of the day. Basically, remembering anything or anyone is yoga. The word yoga should not be limited to exercise which is a narrow definition of yoga. Focusing on one’s own body is extremely important, but only one aspect of a yogi lifestyle. A complete or comprehensive yogi lifestyle is focusing on pure and constructive sources right through the day including God. This is because yoga means union or link, a union which will benefit the soul and body positively.

We all live our lives in search of peace, love and happiness and also inner powers which we as spiritual beings are lacking in. So yoga i.e. our mental energy correctly channeled and connected with something positive provides us with that. People also call performing actions as yoga which is called karma yoga. But only performing selfless actions with complete dedication nowadays with the stresses and strains of everyday living can be depleting on a mental energy level. This will happen unless the karma yoga as it is called is accompanied by a mental union or link with the Supreme while performing the actions. This helps us in remaining unaffected by the stress caused due to being over-busy in those actions. That in the true sense is karma yoga i.e. selfless karmas performed in the remembrance of God. This link between me, the spiritual child and God, the spiritual parent, nourishes me continuously. It gives me the strength to perform actions with complete accuracy and get the desired success filled result.

ϒ Message ϒ

To finish excuses is to take up full responsibility.

Expression:To take up responsibility means to be ready to bear the consequences of the action done. The one who is responsible will never give excuses, but will be able to take the responsibility of correcting the situation. Under all circumstances, such a person will be able to give his best without situations hindering his output.

Experience: When I am responsible, it is not important for me why a mistake happened, but it is more important for me to find a method so that I am able to rectify what has gone wrong. So when I am responsible I am neither worried nor concerned too much for whatever has happened. On the other hand I am able work with lightness to improve the situation.

ϒ Yoga – A Lifestyle – Part 2 ϒ

All of us are living beings with a mind and an intellect, which we use to connect to various objects, people and events throughout the day. This is called our mental energy. This mental energy travels extremely fast and can reach another person in much less than a second. Very often we focus our mental energy on the physical body for mental peace and physical fitness through the medium of yog asanas or yogic postures to attain the desired purpose. That for us is a way of letting go of our stresses and negative energies stored in the body. It makes our mind and body healthy. We also focus our mental energies on our breath through the medium of pranayama whereby flawless and smooth breathing is experienced. This benefits our physical body immensely and also gives us mental energy.

If you are new at the Brahma Kumaris, and if you are practicing yog asanas and pranayama for their physical and emotional health benefits, from before, you don’t need to stop them. This is because both these are extremely important mediums for this purpose and widely acclaimed and proven successful techniques which have saved many people from the most serious of illnesses. They have also reduced the intensity of many illnesses. There are lakhs of people all over the world who share their experiences confirming this. But the Brahma Kumaris add another dimension to this physical side of yoga – a spiritual yoga i.e. connecting the mind and intellect to the supreme source of spiritual energy or God. This is also called yoga or connection with a non-physical pure entity – God. So those who have been practicing yog asanas and pranayama, if they desire, can continue to do the same but add the spiritual yoga in their lifestyles. Those who have not been practicing yog asanas and pranayama concentrate only on the spiritual yoga. Spiritual yoga not only purifies the soul but also has immense benefits for the physical systems of the body and helps in purifying them. This is because a pure mind means a mind full of the seven qualities of peace, joy, love, bliss, purity, power and knowledge. That in turn influences the main systems of the body and makes them free of illnesses. The mechanism of how the mind affects the different body systems will be explained in tomorrow’s message, in further detail.

ϒ Message ϒ

To remain in peace is to give support to those around.

Expression:If there is inner peace even when there is negativity all around, there is the ability to give support to those around. The biggest service that one can do is to give this support to those in need during challenging times. The one who remains in peace even in chaotic conditions becomes an example also.

Experience: When I am able to maintain my own inner state of calm under all circumstances, I am able to learn from everything that happens. I am able to bring benefit for those around me because of the vibrations of positivity that I am able to spread. I become a source of inspiration and support for all those in need.

ϒ Yoga – A Lifestyle – Part 3 ϒ

The practice of spiritual yoga or connecting the mind with a higher source of spiritual power i.e. God, causes His spiritual energy to enter our mind and fill our minds with the seven primary qualities. These qualities are – peace, joy, love, bliss, purity, power and knowledge. These qualities nourish all our body systems and make them free of illnesses. Each time we experience an impure or negative emotion, its negative effect travels to all these systems and this causes the birth of illnesses in these systems. Spiritual yoga, which at the Brahma Kumaris is called Rajyoga meditation and is karma yoga, because it can be done while performing any action, does the opposite. Because Rajyoga is a yoga with the Highest power existing in the universe, it is given that name. This Highest power is God and He is the Highest because He is an overflowing source of all these seven qualities mentioned above. So a link with such a source gives us an experience of these qualities. As a result, these qualities flow to each cell of all the systems of the body and causes these cells to heal and become full of pure spiritual and as a result pure physical energy also. Also, each one of us has a target organ or system which is most prone to disease. What this organ or system is for each one is connected with the karmas of the soul performed in this and previous births, which reflect in the systems of the body. Rajyoga meditation, as taught by the Brahma Kumaris, because of the mechanism explained above, helps in keeping this target organ healthy and also brings with it mental peace and a stress life.

Lastly, as you follow the path of spiritual yoga, take care that physical health issues are also addressed. This is because a healthy body finds it easier to meditate correctly and also perform actions in the remembrance of the Supreme Being with comfort. On one side the meditation helps in clearing up the negative sanskaras of the soul. Negative sanskaras are created in the soul when a negative action is performed either in this or previous births, and are an important cause of all our illnesses. At the same time, on the other side care should also be taken of the physical body through the mediums of a right diet, exercise and sleep. By doing that, the spiritual journey is smooth and obstacle free; a journey on which we welcome all of you.

Expression:To work together is to allow the specialities of each and every individual to be contributed in the task to be done. There is an ability to appreciate others and their contribution. There is no ego of one’s own specialities but a true and natural appreciation of everyone around. So there is success for the task and for the person too.

Experience: Whenever I am involved with others in doing something, the task is important in itself but when I understand the importance of cooperation I am able to recognise the specialities of each and every individual. I am able to have faith in the other person to make his own contribution and I give the space for him to do so.

Connecting To The Qualities Of Others

Meditation adds immense value and depth to my relationships. It also brings closeness in them. Many obstacles and barriers, both on a physical as well as a subtle level, come between me and others when my consciousness and as a result, my perception are struck primarily in the physical dimension. If I hardly know five to ten per cent of myself, and that too mostly on the surface, my relationships are going to be similarly superficial. With my self-respect built on very weak foundations, it will tend to be delicate and I’ll be prone to trying to maintain it by thinking about and focusing my energies on others’ weaknesses, sometimes real and sometimes even imagined. I’ll also find it hard to realize and appreciate their qualities. Such is the state of so many human relationships today.

In meditation, I go into the depths of myself, and deep within my inner being, I find the beauty of peace, love and happiness that is there inside me. I also realize that this same beauty lies inside each soul. Then naturally and very easily, without any effort, I get connected to the same qualities in others. I also find the strength to do the same. I am no longer judgmental seeing others’ temporarysanskaras of negativity. I find qualities that are basically there inside every soul: the original qualities orsanskaras of each spiritual being. It’s like a basic prototype for the whole of humanity, which I deeply see and realize.

You can have good wishes for everyone when you consider the ones who put obstacles in your way as your teachers.

Expression: When someone puts any obstacle in your way, check what feelings you are having towards that person. Check if you are able to have good wishes for them or if your attitude is becoming negative towards them.

Experience: Even when someone does something wrong towards you, have the awareness that they are the ones who enabled you to learn something new and contributed for your progress. When you do this, your negative feelings will also change to positive and you will begin to have good wishes for them.

Meditating With Open Eyes

It is advised to practice meditation with eyes open. When we sit to meditate, if we close our eyes, what we do is that we send a signal to our mind, intellect and our physical body that sleep is close and that signal, in turn, induces sleep. That is the last thing we want to induce inside ourselves, while meditating. Meditation is a way to wake up and stay awake, not only physically, but in terms of being conscious and alert about what is happening internally and externally. It is therefore good to practice with eyes open, so that during your meditation, you can become used to going beyond the physical inputs of what you see, hear, feel and smell and at the same time, remain exposed to these inputs.

By practicing with open or semi-open eyes, it becomes easier to create the accurate state of consciousness while still being faintly aware of our surroundings. This will be essential in day to day activities when we want to stay connected to our inner peace while others around us may not necessarily be very peaceful. It will also help us to move deeply into our peaceful consciousness during conversations which at the same time, require alertness to go into the depth of ideas and concepts. When we are established in our peaceful, spiritual state (as a result of meditating), it is as if we are keeping our third eye, the eye of our intellect, open, which gives us the ability to see, in actions and interactions, what is true and false, and to make the right decisions without being influenced by others or our own emotions. All the above abilities are required many times during the day. We obviously can’t keep closing our eyes to meditate each time any of these abilities are required.

You can always be successful when there is a desire to serve others.

Checking: At the end of each day, check if you have done anything for others. Also check if there is any consciousness of ‘I’ in all the things that you do for others. When there is even the slightest trace of a desire for benefit for yourself you cannot experience either contentment or success.

Practice: Each day take up at least one thing that would bring benefit to others, irrespective of whether it will get you anything or not. When you serve with no selfishness you will find yourself succeeding in all you do.

The Significance Of The Power Of Thought In Meditation 

Meditation is not a process of emptying the mind of thought. In meditation I use the natural power of the soul – the power to create thoughts, as a take-off point (or as a spring-board) to finally experience the consciousness of the true self. In meditation, I climb a ladder of well-prepared, positive and spiritual thoughts and eventually climb beyond the ladder into the pure experience of what I really am. Pondering over these pure and real thoughts can occupy the soul for long periods of time.

In the most basic stage of Rajyoga meditation, first comes the realization: I am a soul, the energy of consciousness made up of a mind, an intellect and a collection of sanskars. My eyes, ears, nose, mouth are just the organs, which when used correctly, help me, the soul, enjoy life. I now possess the knowledge that will free me from my cage. I have the key, spiritual knowledge is the key – I am a soul, a being of light, a bird which has the power to fly freely. Knowing this, I am not bound by physical laws. I can detach and fly at the speed of a thought, to the soul world, where I can easily experience my original state. I must realize that it is impossible to have peace of mind if I cannot detach from the body. I must look upon all my family members, friends, colleagues, also as souls which have come from the soul world. We are all fellow souls.

To have the spirit of sharing is to be constantly happy.

Expression: There are lots of resources in each one’s life that can be shared with others. The more there is the consciousness of giving there is the ability to give and share these inner resources with others. New treasures are discovered and used for the benefit of all and also for the self.

Experience: There is constant satisfaction in my life when there is the spirit of giving. There are no expectations from others, but only an awareness of what I have. Life becomes more and more satisfactory and I feel richer for having given unconditionally. There are also constant good wishes that I receive from others.

Meditation For Personality Transformation

At the heart of every human being or soul there is a spiritual energy, pure, of peace, love, truth and happiness without dependence. Being aware and experiencing this energy provides you with the inner strength necessary for change. Meditation is the method of access in order to allow that energy to come to the surface of your consciousness and in your mind in order to color your thoughts and feelings. In a way very similar to that of a volcano whose melted lava, hot, flows from the centre of the Earth to the surface, we, on meditating, can create volcanoes of power (which emerge in our conscious minds) required for personality transformation.

You can do an exercise, a meditation whereby you choose a habit or sanskar that you don’t want, and you will replace it with a characteristic that you would like to incorporate, like a thread, into the cloth of your personality. For example, replace impatience with patience.

Decide on a habit that you want to change e.g. impatience. We will focus this meditation on changing impatience. You can apply it to other habits also:

I relax and prepare to look inwards…
I am aware of the unwanted habit of becoming impatient…
As I sit in meditation, I relax my body.
I become the observer of my own thoughts and feelings…
Realizing my true identity as soul – a subtle point of light situated at the center of my forehead, just above my eyebrows, I remember my real nature is one of calmness, peace and power…
I focus on the power of peace, inviting it in and welcoming it into my thoughts and feelings from deep within…. enjoying the calm contentment which it brings…
On the screen of my mind, I begin to visualize patience…
I see myself in a situation where I normally become impatient…
I now see myself as being completely full with the virtue of patience…
I shape my feelings around the idea and image of patience…. unhurried and relaxed… calm and watchful…
If necessary, I can wait… forever…. with patience
I am free of the desire for certain outcomes…
I see how I respond with patience…
I see the effect of my patience in others within the situation…
I now know how I will speak with patience, walk with patience and act patiently in the real life situations…
I maintain this peace, which generates serenity and patience in me…

प्रश्न:- तुम बच्चों को अभी कौन-सी एक फिकरात है?
उत्तर:- हमें विनाश के पहले सम्पन्न बनना है। जो बच्चे ज्ञान और योग में मजबूत होते जाते हैं, उन्हें मनुष्य को देवता बनाने की हॉबी (आदत) होती जाती है। वह सर्विस के बिना रह नहीं सकते हैं। जिन्न की तरह भागते रहेंगे। सर्विस के साथ-साथ स्वयं को भी सम्पन्न बनाने की चिंता होगी।

धारणा के लिए मुख्य सार:-
1) लास्ट सो फर्स्ट जाने के लिए महावीर बन पुरूषार्थ करना है। माया के तूफानों में हिलना नहीं है। बाप समान रहमदिल बन मनुष्यों के बुद्धि का ताला खोलने की सेवा करनी है।
2) ज्ञान सागर में रोज़ ज्ञान स्नान कर परीज़ादा बनना है। एक दिन भी पढ़ाई मिस नहीं करनी है। भगवान के हम स्टूडेन्ट हैं-इस नशे में रहना है।

Question: What one concern do you children have now?
Answer: That you have to become complete before destruction takes place. The children who become strong in knowledge and yoga develop the hobby of changing human beings into deities. They cannot stay without doing service. They continue to run around like genies. Together with doing service, they also have the concern to make themselves complete.

Essence for dharna:
1. In order to become first from being last make effort like a mahavir. Do not fluctuate in the storms of Maya. Become merciful like the Father and do the service of opening the locks on the intellects of human beings.
2. Bathe daily in the ocean of knowledge and become angels. Do not miss this study for a single day. Maintain the intoxication that you are God’s students.

Blessing: May you be an embodiment of success who gains victory over every adverse situation on the basis of faith and intoxication.
Through yoga, now attain such success that any lack of attainment also gives you the experience of attainment. Faith and intoxication make you victorious over every situation. As you progress further, you will have such test papers that you might have to eat dry chappatis, but faith, intoxication and the power of success in yoga will make even dry chappatis soft; you will not be distressed. Maintain the honour of being an embodiment of success and no one will be able to distress you. If you have any facilities, then use them comfortably, but check that you are not deceived at that time.

If we look at nature, we will notice that everything in nature – plants, flowers, etc. do everything they do peacefully – they grow, flourish, decompose and die in peace. We get an obvious impression from them that peace is their natural nature. Even the five elements – earth, wind, water, fire and sky are mostly peaceful by nature. It’s only when we try and exercise control over them and interfere with their balance that they lose their peace. Most of us, irrespective of our age, even in these stressful and hurry filled times, act peacefully and express our peaceful nature in relationships by means of peaceful thoughts, words and actions, unless something is wrong in the relationship. We instinctively like peaceful relationships. If something is wrong in a relationship and it lacks peace even to a small extent, we do not feel good or comfortable about it. All this proves to us that we, like nature, are essentially peaceful by nature. That is our basic personality.

Most of us have, at some time in our lives and even more frequently in the case of many of us, experienced and expressed our peaceful nature. It’s so natural, we are not even consciously aware of it. What we are more aware of is when we are distanced from the natural i.e. we are unnatural – worried, scared, irritated etc. But these unnatural phases always pass and we finally return to our peaceful self. There are some people who are permanently grumpy and tight with someone or the other, because of something or the other. On some days we also feel as if we are continuously living on the edge and continuously succumbing to frustration and anger. But even then, away from everyone’s eyes; everyone, the compulsive angerholic (one who cannot live without anger) and you also, will, at some stage, look inwards, relax and have an inner personal spiritual retreat in which they will find relief by experiencing their true nature of peace.

Because of his own contribution, others too help him and contribute whatever they can to achieve what he sets out to do. So there is success in everything.Experience: When I do the right thing, I will be able to experience constant self-progress. I will then never have the slightest feeling of failing, but will always experience success as a right, even if the result is not what I have expected. I experience positive feelings because of having put in the right effort.

प्रश्न:- कौन-सी प्रैक्टिस करते रहो तो आत्मा बहुत-बहुत शक्तिशाली बन जायेगी?
उत्तर:- जब भी समय मिले तो शरीर से डिटैच होने की प्रैक्टिस करो। डिटैच होने से आत्मा में शक्ति वापिस आयेगी, उसमें बल भरेगा। तुम अण्डर-ग्राउण्ड मिलेट्री हो, तुम्हें डायरेक्शन मिलता है – अटेन्शन प्लीज़ अर्थात् एक बाप की याद में रहो, अशरीरी हो जाओ।

धारणा के लिए मुख्य सार:-
1) लाइट हाउस बन सबको शान्तिधाम, सुखधाम का रास्ता बताना है। सबकी नईया को दु:खधाम से निकालने की सेवा करनी है। अपना भी कल्याण करना है।
2) अपने शान्त स्वरूप स्थिति में स्थित हो शरीर से डिटैच होने का अभ्यास करना है, याद में आंखे खोलकर बैठना है, बुद्धि से रचता और रचना का सिमरण करना है।

वरदान:- कोई भी बात कल्याण की भावना से देखने और सुनने वाले परदर्शन मुक्त भव
जितना संगठन बड़ा होता जाता है, बातें भी उतनी बड़ी होंगी। लेकिन अपनी सेफ्टी तब है जब देखते हुए न देखें, सुनते हुए न सुनें। अपने स्वचिंतन में रहें। स्वचिंतन करने वाली आत्मा परदर्शन से मुक्त हो जाती है। अगर किसी कारण से सुनना पड़ता है, अपने आपको जिम्मेवार समझते हो तो पहले अपनी ब्रेक को पावरफुल बनाओ। देखा-सुना, जहाँ तक हो सका कल्याण किया और फुल स्टॉप।

स्लोगन:- अपने सन्तुष्ट, खुशनुम: जीवन से हर कदम में सेवा करने वाले ही सच्चे सेवाधारी हैं।

Essence: Sweet children, you are the Salvation Army who will salvage all souls from their karmic bondages. You must not become trapped in karmic bondages.

Question: What should you continue to practise so that the soul becomes very powerful?
Answer: Whenever you have time, practise becoming detached from the body. By becoming detached, the soul will regain power and become filled with strength. You are the underground military and are given the direction, “Attention please!”, that is, “Stay in remembrance of the one Father and become bodiless.”

Essence for dharna:
1. Become a lighthouse and show everyone the way to the land of peace and the land of happiness. Do the service of removing everyone’s boat from the land of sorrow. Also benefit yourself.
2. Remain stable in your peaceful form and practise becoming detached from your body. Sit in remembrance with your eyes open. Remember the Creator and creation with your intellect.

Blessing: May you be free from looking at others, and have feelings of benevolence when seeing or hearing about any situation.
The bigger the gathering, the bigger the situations will be. However, your safety lies in looking but not seeing and hearing but not listening. Maintain pure and positive thoughts for the self. Souls who maintain pure and positive thoughts for the self remain free from looking at others. If due to any reason you have to listen to anything and you consider yourself to be responsible, then, first of all, make your brake powerful. You saw, you heard and brought as much as benefit possible and put a full stop.

Slogan: Those who do service at every step through their contented and happy lives are true servers.

Practical Exercise On Intellect Reawakening And Empowerment

It has been estimated that for around 80% of our daily routine we are ruled by habits. This means that most of the time we go straight from thought (created by the mind) to action, without checking the quality of our thoughts. In this way, we bypass the intellect, and do not use our capacity to judge right from wrong and to make conscious decisions. What we need to do now is reawaken, use and empower the intellect, which is true spiritual empowerment.

Practical Exercise
Withdraw your attention from everything around you. Create a simple thought in your mind. Concentrate on the thought. Then use your intellect to judge to what extent the thought is right or wrong and what the quality of that thought is (is it a negative thought, a waste or unnecessary thought, a necessary thought, a positive one etc.?). If you decide it is not a good thought, leave it and create a better thought. In this way, you consciously exercise control of your mind and intellect thereby strengthening your mental and intellectual capacities. This will also help you regain your feelings of rule over the self.

If thoughts or images come from your memories or from sources outside your own mind while you are busy in this inner exercise, don’t give them any mental energy. Let them go and bring your attention back to your own ‘conscious’ creation (mentioned above).

Once, you have mastered this in this exercise; try the same process while you busy in your daily routine.

Message

The one with contentment is neither upset nor upsets others.

Projection: Many times I find that my words, actions or behaviour tends to upset others inspite of my not wanting to hurt them. I seem to be very happy with the situation, but others don’t seem to be. At that time I am not really able to understand the reason for this and I consider the others to be unreasonable.

Solution: I need to check myself when others are getting upset with me. I need to make effort to check and change myself constantly so that I am able to move along with the demands of time. This is what will bring about true contentment – such contentment that neither will I be upset nor will I upset others.

Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses. Now make up a series of questions, which will judge how effectively you are using these strengths to improve your personal and professional life, and what negative effects are your weaknesses (shortcomings) having on the same. These are some of the questions that you can ask yourself at the end of each week to monitor your self-progress: 
e.g. Which strengths if acquired would help me improve my worth (value) at the workplace? Is any weakness of mine proving to be an obstacle (barrier) in maintaining a healthy relationship with my family? Am I using my strengths in empowering (strengthening) others? Does any weakness exist inside me, which if removed would improve my level of contentment (satisfaction) and lead to greater peace of mind?

Note down three main strengths and three important roles that you play in your life. Now check if your strengths properly match the roles. If they do not match, think if there is a new personality characteristic you need to develop. If a particular role is self-selected, if it does not match your strengths, is it a good role for you to be playing?

 

Message

To be flexible is to enjoy everything that life brings.

Projection: When I plan perfectly for the day ahead, I sometimes find that I am not able to implement all that I had planned for. Things seem to be coming up unexpectedly spoiling everything for me. I am then not able to be happy with what is happening and so find it difficult to do my best in the particular situation.

Solution: It is as important to be flexible in my thoughts as it is to be particular about my daily schdule. Flexibility allows me to accommodate the unforeseen situations that come up my way and enables me to make the best use of everything. And so I enjoy everything that comes my way.

Controlling Your Emotions –

There are five essential steps to emotional control and mastery. Although the complete process will finally happen in a few seconds in real life, it is essential for our learning to break it down and see what is required at every step. 

Step One Awareness 
This simply means being aware of the emergence of the subtlest (finest) of emotions, which, if left unchecked, will grow into important disturbances. For example irritation leads to frustration leads to anger leads to rage.

Step TwoAcknowledge 
Which means taking responsibility for the emotion by understanding and acknowledging that I am the creator of the emotion, not someone or something else.

Step threeAcceptance 
Fully accept the presence of the emotion without resisting (opposing) it in any way. If it is resisted it simply becomes stronger, or is suppressed for another day.

Step FourAscend 
This is the moment of full detachment from both the emotion and the inner source of emotion. In the process of detached observation the emotion is losing its power. And it is only through detached observation that the emotion will begin to dissolve.

Step FiveAttune 
This means returning our attention to the very centre of ourselves where our inner peace and power are to be found. This is the purpose of meditation.

Message 

To be in the awareness of my own speciality is to be free from negativity. 

Projection: When I percieve negativity in others, I find myself very easily influenced by it. I then react negatively to them and am not able to maintain my own positivity. All my specialities remain hidden in such a negative atmosphere and I continue to be negative too.

Solution: Like a rose I need to maintain my originality and uniqueness while being amongst the thorns. Instead of blaming others and their negativity for my own negativity, I need to practice being positive and working with my original qualities. Then I will never complain but will always use my own specialities.

Am I Creating Negative Karma – Guilt As An Indicator – Part 1

At the heart of our consciousness, we have a conscience.Our conscience is essentially our basic awareness of truth. From a spiritual point of view, the truth of who we are as spiritual beings is core and eternal truth. If we consider ourselves to be anything other than soul or spirit then we will be thinking and acting against our conscience, against our truth, which is like going against the essence of spirit. We will feel something is not quite right. If one of the pistons in our car engine is out of sync with the others, the engine will sound slightly different from normal. We immediately have it fixed, because we know that if it continues it may destroy the engine. If we do something that is out of sync with the truth, the voice of our conscience speaks to us. But we tend to ignore or suppress it, especially if we are having a seemingly pleasurable experience – we then create the sanskars or habit of ignoring our own conscience. As a result we keep repeating the negative karma and the sanskars of the negative karma are deepened, further ignoring the voice of our conscience. It is a vicious cycle, to come out of which is extremely difficult.

Message

The one who is free from desire is the one who is able to maintain positivity. 

Projection: When I put forth my ideas to others I expect them to listen to me. My idea changes to desire and when it is not accepted I then tend to become irritated. And along with it also comes jealousy or dislike for the others and I find myself caught up in negativity.

Solution: I need to make sure that I share my ideas with others but at the same time I need to keep myself free from any selfish motive. When I put forth my idea in a detached way, I too will be open to learning and I will be able to accept any criticism or rejectance that comes my way. Thus I will be free from negativity.

Am I Creating Negative Karma – Guilt As An Indicator – Part 2

An angerholic (one who gets angry repeatedly) hears the internal voice telling him to stop creating mental unrest, harming his body, hurting others and being addicted to the habit and the hormones that get created inside the body due to the habit, but then ignores the voice or drowns it out. This only adds to the inner disharmony (peacelessness) already present and both self-respect and self-esteem are slowly reduced. Any action we do which springs from forgetfulness (body-consciousness) will trigger this inner, spiritual discomfort. Following the action, we might feel guilty for doing something we internally knew was wrong. Any form of guiltexcept the one that is caused by another person i.e. except the case when guilt is caused inside you because another person is emotionally blackmailing you, is the voice of our conscience calling to say that we are acting against the essence, something is out of sync. Our level of guilt acts like a thermometer (an indicator). It shows us when and to what extent we are not aligned to truth. If we learn to pay attention, listen closely to this inner discomfort and the message it conveys, we will also hear why and how to make corrections, so that we no longer create negative karma. 

Message

The one who fulfills promises with determination is the one who overcome all problems. 

Projection: When I see some weakness working within me I usually make a promise to myself with a lot of enthusiasm. But if I face even a little opposition or difficulty in fulfilling this promise, I tend to lose hope and usually give up trying altogether.

Solution: In order to bring about a change in me and fulfill my promise, I need to use the virtue of determination. Every time I find myself becoming careless in it, I need to remind myself strongly of the importance of the promise that I had made. Then I will be able to win over all the obstacles that come my way in bringing my thoughts and words to actions.

Motivation for Change

An important factor to start positive change in our lives is for there to be a passion, a powerful force that leads us, a final goal that keeps us motivated. It is important to set yourself goals, to be convinced and to have the confidence and faith that one can reach them, since in this way we will make a daily effort to achieve those goals. There needs to be a clearly defined sense of purpose to your existence, clarifying the values that must guide your life in order to achieve these goals and establish the steps you must take for inculcating these values. If, at a subconscious level, you allow a mistaken purpose to be created, or there is a lack of true purpose in your life, then you will not be motivated to know and change yourself. Many people think that the purpose of their life is to survive and they use the language of survival in this way: “Life is hard out there. You must get whatever you can”. They are not aware that they have chosen this purpose, but subconsciously it is what they believe they are here for, and this makes them think that they must accumulate, take, create barriers to protect themselves and compete with others.

 

 

Practical Ways of Changing Old Habits or Beliefs – Part 2 

Positive Affirmations 

Affirmations are promises that we make to ourselves. They are helpful for breaking negative habits or weak thoughts that have been created as a result of mistaken attitudes. Affirmations help to strengthen the mind, although to be effective there must be acceptance and understanding behind them. It is interesting to begin experimenting with them and, later on, we can begin to create variations of new affirmations, according to our individual needs.

Here are some examples: 

* Today I will experience peace through positivity. I will see what is good in others and will not think about what is negative or harmful. I will see others in the way I would like them to see me.

* From now on I will not judge others.

* Today I will speak peacefully and share peace with everyone around me. I must speak as softly as I can. 

* Today I will make the past the past and look towards the future with a new vision. 

* Today I will not react angrily. I will stay calm and in peace and will not sacrifice this for anyone or any situation. I must not allow anything or anyone rob me of my peace.

For the affirmation to be effective, we must repeat it to ourselves often, so that it becomes recorded in our subconscious. It is also important to proclaim the affirmations with feeling, believing in them and not in a monotonous and impersonal voice. As a minimum, you should repeat each affirmation at least five times a day. If we listen to something repeatedly, we begin to believe in it. In reality, this is the origin of the majority of our beliefs, when as children we heard our parents tell us things over and over again. Advertising uses this technique constantly. They create a phrase, a slogan, and repeat it over and over again in the media until, finally, people believe it. To be able to control your life, first you must know and dominate your beliefs. One way of doing this is through affirmations.

Conscious Disassociation 

A useful method for transforming habits is that of conscious disassociation. This involves avoiding the situations that give rise to the habit occurring automatically. For example, if you often smoke after a coffee, you have to make sure there is no coffee. By breaking your habit, you will be less likely to have a craving to smoke. Instead of your habitual coffee, you can create a new pattern and have a cup of herbal tea and sit down to think or read, instead of smoking.
Rajyoga Meditation
Rajyoga meditation is an efficient method for transforming habits. By connecting with the Supreme Soul (who is the purest conscient energy) in the incorporeal (non-physical) world of divine light, which is called paramdham orshantidham, the soul purifies itself and one experiences a natural disinclination from negative habits that we have been trapped in for a long time.

Visualization 

Visualization consists of creating positive images by means of the ability to imagine, and in this way reinforce positive thoughts and strengthen your will to achieve positively what you affirm for yourself in your mind. With visualization you manage to intensify experiences of positive affirmations and self-motivation, and it also helps you to specify and clarify your goals. The basic principle of using images in our mind is to act as if the desire we have in our mind has already been achieved. If we place images of success, health, wellbeing or inner peace in our mind, these will materialize in positive situations and experience, and this image of success will become real in our lives.

Exercises of Silence 

Exercises of silence help you concentrate your mind and intellect, and go within yourself to recover the positive and eternal energies. With the appropriate concentration of the mind and intellect towards your constructive inner forces of peace, love and happiness, you can strengthen yourself. Being strong means staying positive when faced with negative situations, peaceful when everything around you is chaotic: in other words, not being influenced negatively but influencing the situation with your positivity. When you stay calm in your inner power of peace, you can transmit this to others and help them to calm themselves. When you begin exercises of silence, concentrate primarily on peace. This is the basis of the practice, as when there is inner balance and harmony it is easier to build over these the other values love, happiness, truth and sincerity. The experience of deep peace calms you, clarifies you and fills you with energy to think and act positively and achieve your purpose that you have set for yourself.

Transforming The Other’s Anger 

In meditation, when I connect with God, I absorb His spiritual love and peace, which causes my own original qualities, which are present in me, the soul, in my pure state when I begin the playing of roles through physical bodies on the world stage, to come to the forefront or to the surface, to emerge in the conscious from the sub-conscious. As a result, now, where previously there would have been conflict, I have a greater capacity to remain peaceful when another person behaves in an unpleasant way with me. I have the power to stay mentally and emotionally stable when someone provokes or insults me. This power is enormously valuable in life, enabling me to cool heated situations, and even remove another person’s anger altogether. 

Instead of focusing on the anger on a person’s face, I focus my attention to the non-physical, star-like being or soul within the person, which was peaceful and loveful in its original, pure state. This increases my tolerance and acceptance power. Also, through my meditation, I am actively aware of the spiritual bond all human beings share, as souls who have a common home of peace, the incorporeal (non-physical) home, from where all of souls come and a common connection with the One Supreme Father, the Supreme Soul. Through this knowledge, I connect with the goodness in the other soul and my love for the soul is maintained. I realize that this goodness is a deeper reality than the anger. The truth is that if I can hold this soul-conscious vision steady for long enough, I radiate positive energy to the other soul, which works like magic and awakens the goodness within the other person. Then, my tolerance bears fruit and peace really does prevail between the two of us.

To bring in light is to finish darkness. 

Expression: Usually when there is any negativity seen, there is a lot of attention paid to it. All the positivity remains hidden and only the negativity is highlighted. So the one who is caught up with a negative attitude colours all his words and actions too with this negativity and will naturally create a world of negativity for himself. 

Experience: When I am able to see the positivity even in both positive situations and negative situations, I am able to influence others with my positivity. Others’ negativity will not influence me in a negative way, but I will be able to remain powerful in all situations. I will experience inner growth constantly.
